Various Malta Bio-tech and Energy Projects
In 2002 - 2004, PSC, together with other Team members including
Elvingston Science Centre, Simpson Research, Technology for Industry
and BioMedical Business Partners, undertook a series of assignments
in the bio-tech and energy sectors, focused primarily on Malta.
We advised and supported three early-stage bio-tech companies
(cancer research; vaccine delivery; and genomics, bio-manufacturing
and neuro-pharmaceuticals). Our advice and services included technology
assessment and validation; development of business and financial
plans; and identification of and introduction to investment partners.
While two of these bio-tech companies were based in Toronto and
Melbourne (respectively), all three had strong Malta connections,
and were evaluating opportunities for Malta-sourced investment
and bases for operations.
We also worked closely with Institute for Promotion of Small
Enterprise (IPSE – now a part of Malta Enterprise), and
established a Memorandum of Understanding for the twinning of
the Kordin Business Incubation Centre (KBIC) with the Elvingston
Science Park in East Lothian, Scotland.
On the energy side, the PSC Team introduced several innovative
energy technology developments to Malta, and made proposals for
a strategy for the exploitation of renewable energy sources for
Malta’s electricity generation needs. We also promoted the
establishment of an Ecosite Project (see www.ecosite.net)
in Malta.
